This technology allows Truecaller’s Assistant, available to paid users, to replicate users’ voices for greeting and responding to callers.

To enable this feature, Truecaller users must record a short script in their own voice after giving consent. This recording creates a digital copy of the user’s voice, allowing the Assistant to answer calls using the synthetic voice.

The Assistant provides various functionalities, such as answering calls, screening unknown calls, taking messages, responding on the user’s behalf, and even recording the call. Users have the option to customize the follow-up responses based on their preferences.

Customization and Security

While users can edit the introductory greeting template for callers, Truecaller has restricted the greeting template when using a personal voice to ensure that callers recognize the voice as a digital version. This measure ensures transparency and clarity for the callers.

Moreover, the personal voice feature from Azure AI Speech, which is available through limited registration-only access, adds watermarks to the speech outputs. This allows a detector tool to identify synthetic audio, ensuring security and authenticity.

Market Rollout

The personal voice feature on Truecaller’s Assistant will start rolling out over the next few weeks. Initially, it will be available to public beta users in the U.S., Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden, and Chile. After the beta phase, it will be accessible to all users in these eligible markets.
