The password is not dead — it has been declared dead more often than a comic-book villain — but its reign over the living-room screen is starting to look less secure.

The IMEI is the handset’s unique cellular equipment identifier, and it can be useful when reporting a stolen device to a carrier or police. A Play services switch does not mean every employee will see the feature tomorrow. My read is that Google is slowly treating watches as proper endpoint devices rather than notification mirrors, which makes sense as health, access badges, payments, and authentication converge on the wrist.

There is also a new API intended to improve the reliability of work-profile setup, plus manufacturer support for launching storage-management and subscription flows. Neither will make headlines outside an IT department, but reliable enrollment is exactly the kind of unglamorous work that determines whether corporate Android deployments scale or become a help-desk disaster.

WebView changes matter even when nobody sees them

WebView 151 gets a new HTTP Cache Quota API, allowing developers to manage the cache used by web content embedded inside Android apps. Apps use WebView constantly — for help pages, checkout systems, sign-in panels, and sometimes, unfortunately, most of the app itself. Better cache controls can improve performance and rein in storage use, depending on whether developers do the work.

The update also migrates visited-link infrastructure to a partition-aware system, with Google saying there should be no behavioral change. That phrase is boring, which is exactly what you want from a privacy-related WebView migration. Partitioning is part of a broader effort across browsers to stop one site from learning too much about activity elsewhere.
