Update — June 2026
Much has changed since the original story covering how Twitter Changes Logo to ‘X’ Saying Goodbye to the Bird. In May 2024, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter officially transitioned its website address from Twitter.com to X.com, closing a chapter in its history. The corporate transformation also accelerated: in March 2025, X Corp. was acquired by xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, in an all-stock transaction that valued X at $33 billion, with a full valuation of $45 billion when factoring in $12 billion in debt. Then, in February 2026, Musk announced that his space exploration company SpaceX had acquired xAI, consolidating assets into one combined company ahead of a planned initial public offering (IPO).
On the leadership front, Yaccarino stepped down in July 2025, giving no reason for her departure. Regulators have also taken action: in December 2025, the European Commission fined X €120 million for alleged non-compliance with requirements of the Digital Services Act. Meanwhile, during 2024–2025 the platform expanded with the launch of Grok AI, long-form video uploads, expanded Communities, and the rollout of X Money payments. In January 2025, X announced plans to introduce an “X Money Account” feature — a digital wallet enabling users to move funds between traditional bank accounts and their digital wallet and make instant peer-to-peer payments, with Visa announced as a partner on the project.
In terms of usage, as of 2026, usage of X on mobile devices has been in progressive decline, while mobile usage of rival network Threads has been increasing — with Threads usage finally rising to match that of X in January 2026. Despite the upheaval, the word “tweet” remains the dominant term in everyday usage in 2026 despite X’s official rename to “posts.” For a full timeline of changes, see the X (social network) Wikipedia page.
Elon Musk announced over the weekend that Twitter has removed its iconic bird logo and adopted ‘X’ as its official logo. The new logo is already live on the website, and Musk tweeted that x.com now redirects to twitter.com. He also mentioned that this is an “interim” logo, so we may see another logo change in the future. The twitter changes logo to ‘X’ from blue bird.
Elon Musk announced on Sunday that Twitter might not just be changing its logo, but also bidding farewell to the Twitter brand and its birds. He changed his profile picture to the new Twitter logo.
Twitter’s official account @Twitter has also changed its name and display picture to the new X logo. In a reply to a user, Musk suggested calling Tweets “X’s.”

Elon Musk tweeted on July 24, 2023, that Linda Yaccarino, the company’s CEO, proclaimed that Twitter revolutionized the way people communicate with each other, but X will go further. X will offer features such as audio, video, messaging, payment/banking to create a global platform for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. This seems to be a comprehensive list.
Elon Musk’s infatuation with the letter “X” has become widely recognized over the years. It all started back in 1997 when he founded X.com, a company that would later evolve into the popular online payment platform, PayPal. Musk’s inclination for the enigmatic letter continued with his space exploration venture, SpaceX, which prominently features the letter “X” as its logo. More recently, he ventured into the realm of artificial intelligence, establishing the AI company, X.ai.
In a significant move earlier this year, Musk’s social networking empire, Twitter, underwent a legal name change from Twitter Inc. to X Corp, further emphasizing his affinity for the mysterious letter.
Ever since taking the reins of Twitter, the CEO of Tesla has been vocal about his vision to transform the platform into what he calls “X, the everything app,” alluding to a grander and more versatile concept.
Surprising the Twitterverse, Musk is no stranger to altering the platform’s iconic logo. Earlier this year, he briefly replaced the familiar bird logo with the internet-famous Doge meme, capturing the attention of users worldwide. For those who preferred the traditional bird logo, a developer created an extension allowing users to avoid the Doge version and restore the original bird logo with ease. Interestingly, this extension also works seamlessly with the new “X” logo, enabling users to switch back and forth effortlessly.
Elon Musk’s unmistakable fascination with the letter “X” continues to leave a mark on various ventures and now on Twitter itself, prompting curiosity and speculation among his ever-growing audience. What other surprises and transformations lie ahead for this enigmatic visionary and his innovative ventures? Only time will tell as the “X” factor remains an integral part of Musk’s journey into the future.
Twitter adopted its iconic bird logo in 2010, naming it “Larry the bird” after legendary Boston Celtics basketball player Larry Bird.
This branding change came days after Elon Musk responded to a user, citing a 50% drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load as the reasons for the company’s negative cash flow. Also, thread was creating the impact on twitter but now its going down.
