Its central feature comes from Aira, a start-up company whose FreePower technology is built for flexible, multi-device wireless charging. Tesla’s platform can charge devices placed anywhere on its surface, regardless of their specific placement. In a category where the usual experience often involves nudging a phone around until it starts charging, that freedom is the real product—not merely an extra convenience.

Wireless charging without the alignment ritual

Traditional wireless chargers generally work best when a device is placed in a fairly exact position. A charging coil in the phone needs to line up with the charger’s active area, which is why many pads include circles, guides, upright stands, or other visual prompts. Those designs can work well for one device, but they also make a charging pad feel more particular than it ought to be.
